About me:

Anode 2009 Program

Over 100 artists across Sydney and Melbourne are involved in the anode 2009 season of events and experiences. Some you will have heard of, others are emerging out of their studios and bedrooms for the first time. Here is a small taste of what is to come - the first release of artists connected through anode.



Andante

Tashmadada, Open Channel and ACAPTA host Younes Bachir, actor and collaborator from acclaimed Spanish performance company La Fura dels Baus who will present “Andante” - a 10 day workshop in which Younes will immerse the participants in a unique theatrical language and process. The workshop, which runs from the 4th - 14th November, will culminate in a public performance at Open Channel's Shed 4 at Docklands on the 14th November at 6pm.

Alex Crowfoot

This year's Anode will feature an exhibition/installation and other concepts by musician, designer, art director, writer, general ear-bender and now design lecturer, Alex Crowfoot. Alongside this work, he will also be guiding a gaggle of young Sydney creatives in the spatial transformation of our festival bar.





Beautiful Losers

Speakeasy Cinema launches with Aaron Rose’s documentary Beautiful Losers, a portrait of the former nerds, freaks and outsiders who coalesced around New York’s Alleged Gallery in the ’90s, and became accidental art-stars. Rooted in the DIY worlds of skate, surf, punk, hip hop and graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led, and in doing so created one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation.

Figures and Loops

Boss Films presents Figures and Loops, a documentary exploring the world of artistic roller-skating. Directed by David Regos and Walter Matteson. A delightful look into the little known sub-culture that is artistic roller skating, Figures and Loops follows a group of competitors throughout the course of a skating season. From local competitions in small town California through to the highly competitive World Championships in Germany, this is a glitter-filled snapshot of what it takes to make it in this incredible underground sport.

Flutter Lyon

Flutter Lyon creates lyrically emotive, visually luscious audio visual moments. A uniquely engaging live musician, Lyon plays improvised sets that employ vocals, electric guitar and effects to create stunning, unexpected performances. Having recently returned from a New York City tour in August 2009, Lyon will play an audio visual tour in Sydney and Melbourne this coming Summer 2009/10.

Independently published since 1980, GDS now makes two issues a year, and also commissions new spoken word performances and graphic novellas for each issue.

InDesign User Group

The Melbourne InDesign User Group is a volunteer-based user community, managed and run by Adobe InDesign users. The group provides a forum for users to share, learn and grow their InDesign knowledge. With over 1000 members, from design students to creative professionals to printers and educators, there's plenty of knowledge to go around.




Josephine Rowe

Josephine Rowe's poetry and short fiction have been widely published and performed, and broadcast on Radio National, 3RRR and Vision Australia Radio. Her most recent collection of short stories is 'How a Moth Becomes a Boat'. Performing with Judith Hamann, cellist and composer, member of new music project Golden Fur which blends improvisation and experimental elements with classical music, and also performing solo as Paper Tiger.

Lauren Brown

A durational performance work about sound in the public space. The third in a series of process works investigating sound in public space, 85 Decibels, Baby! is a durational performance work in which all the sounds of the city are attended to for 8 hours. Exclusively for Anode, the artist will be situated on the Corner of Bourke and Elizabeth Sts, Melbourne for the time-frame of a traditional working day and the duration deemed 'safe' to listen to 85 decibels - that of city traffic from inside a car..

Make: Do

Make: Do covered issues affecting Australian creative producers. Make: Do. filled the sizable gap in Australian media landscape - arts coverage for normal people over the age of sixteen and under the age of sixty. Make: Do may have ended but the program's ethos continues in Public Broadcast's two upcoming series - Will You Buy Me Lunch? and The Occident as well as one off documentary shorts at www.publicbroadcast.com.au

These Walls Can Talk

Renowned Australian recording studios, Studios 301, have recently commissioned three Australian contemporary artists to complete major wall works within several areas of the studios. As the first of the artists engaged, Flutter Lyon invited Ben Frost and Kyle Jenkins to collaborate on two visual pieces that have revitalised and reinvigorated the spaces that have played host to recording sessions for some of the world’s biggest recording artists including Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Snoop Dogg, Coldplay, Silverchair and Lady Gaga
