Sounds Like
Random Sound put together to create perfect Melody! ..............
Obscure, original, and unique are only a few adjectives that describe music producer Anon. Born Domonic Dunlap in Los Angeles California on July 3,1983, Anon conceived his unique name which is short for Anonymous as a form of symbolism for his unique sound and the inability for others to categorize the unorthodox producer. Along with his sound, he further projects his unique style by remaining; as his name states Anonymous. He maintains this by keeping his identity a mystery enveloped under a variation of custom masks. As the son of legendary bass player Melvin Dunlap, who is responsible for some of the most memorable bass lines from Bill Withers “Aint no Sunshine”,”Lean on Me”,and “Grandmas Hands” to Charles Wright and The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm and there incredibly successful single “Express Yourself”, it’s safe to say that the music is certainly in his blood. Anon’s production has received plenty of praise as well as comparisons to a sound that meshes Missy Elliott, Timbaland and Dr.Dre all in one. Whether it’s syncopated drums, a simple yet hard drum beat that utilizes the 2’s and 4’s or ethnic samples from around the globe. Not only a fan of music but an admirer of creativity and diverse cultures, Anon was able to borrow from the unique music he grew up listening to. With inspiration from Classical Music, to Classic Rock and New Age (World Music) his palette for music is about as diverse as his collection of masks. “I grew up listening to everything from Led Zepplin, Judas Priest and Metallica, to Yanni, Cusco, Andreas Vollenweider,Deep Forest, and everything in between. I believe nothing says more about a person than their taste in music”. Growing up with such a diverse ear, his original intent was to produce music for video games. However as time progressed and his sound developed he began to experiment with hip hop music. One of his first projects was a collaborative effort with an artist from New Jersey named Yaneira De jour (pronounced Janera De Jour). His creative/experimental sound stood out to the New Jersey artist as she flew out to Los Angeles to meet up and produce her experimental E.P. Unfortunately the album was never officially released. Anon’s second collaboration came via Los Angeles based emcee Bambu and his second solo project “I Scream Bars for the Children”. The producer conjured up a track, that Bambu titled “The Love”. The track in particular was well received considering its very laid back tempo and Bambu’s deep message and lyricism. The track garnered Anon much attention including the attention of a few major artists. Trying to capitalize on his buzz Anon approached the industry with an “Arms Open” ideology, opening the doors and the idea of collaborating with artist from all over the globe. This approach proved to be quite beneficial as his fan base grew significantly along with his online popularity allowing him to jump from 1200 plays on myspace to well over 800,000 within a 3 month span including placement on the Beats/Instrumental charts all over Soundclick.com. Anon’s popularity further increased over time through his simple collaborations with artist he met via Myspace,Twitter and eventually Facebook. In 2010 he released his first Instrumental Album Called the “S” Files and recently in 2011 he scored placements on HBO’s Funny or Die, producing tracks for comedian Romany Malco’s fictional character Tijuana Jackson (Ex Con turned Life Coach). In addition to HBO he managed to gain placement on Bambu’s latest release “Papercuts” in which he produced the single “Paperthin” featuring Chace Infinite of the popular L.A based group Self Scientific along with Dj Khalil. The single received rotation including video rotation on MTV. The self proclaimed “Beat Mason” and student of music, credits a lot of his diverse taste and experimentation to his father who instilled in him the importance of moving against the grain, and being unafraid to remain unique and true to ones style. As he bounces between composing music for indie artist, and film based projects, it is only a matter of time before Anon’s unique style, masks and over all message of “Keeping the Music Evolved” is acknowledged…accepted…and thrusted into the forefront with the industry heavyweights.
