10th - 12th June 2011 Rae Hills Meadows, Galloway Eden is a welcoming, atmospheric, family friendly festival, located in the stunning Raehills Meadows and will be set across 8 stages from the 10th - 12th June 2011 The whole aim behind the festival is to provide a 3 day celebration of music, dance, colour, culture and community built on an ecologicaly sound and carbon friendly set of principles and to exhibit live music hand in hand with stunning decorations and surroundings. Carbon emmissions from the festival will be calculated by the local Crichton Carbon Centre after the festival. The open-air Devorgilla Stage is to be host to some of the greatest underground bands of the last 20 years from Celtic, Roots, Tango, Reggae, Swing, Klezmer, Samba, Afrobeat, Folk, Balkan, Gypsy and Ska. The stage itself will be as impressive as the line-up it provides. The Ghillie Dhu Dance Tent will be a colourful melting pot of everything from Drum 'n' Bass to Psy-trance back to Dubstep and Breakbeat over to Electro-Swing and Electro Balkan and anything in between - there will be something to suit any fan of dance music. This stage will exhibit live percussion instrumental dance music from many cultures and influences until nightfall descends. Immerse yourself in the enticing, warm and exotic atmosphere of the Furry Chillum Stage, exhibiting accoustic, brass, swing, ska, reggae and a heavy smattering of the bazzar. The tent's unique soundsystem will be provided by Jumblesale Sounds and hosted on the back of a stunning vintage truck. Rabbie's Tavern will provide an auld Scottish bar to drink the local hooch with live bands playing celtic, roots, rockabilly and anything else that makes you stomp your foot, hoist yer tankerds and jig aboot! Rabbies Tavern will also have a traditional Scottish ceilidh each night. On My Giddy Aunts Cabaret Stage you can find a swirl of cabaret, cinema, open mic, burlesque or workshop treats. This area provides an attention grabbing mix of eclectic productions, transcending itself to the audience in an inspiring and original display. The Big Tams Cider Bar.... this year Big Tam Francis' Cider Bar will be the Apple of Eden (Boom boom) with a plethora of mighty ciders on tap, fun games for all ages and the closest thing you can get to a Galloway barn dance. Flufffy and fun during the day... turning (apple) seedy at night..... The Ladybird Collective Zone: Delve into the magical world of this collective of artists, musicians, puppeteers, dancers, performers and festival lovers in the wonderous home.... the ladybird dome.... The Vishnu Lounge RETURNS from the yester years of the Eden zone at Wickerman Festival. Expect a warm and cumfy pampering in Edens chillout palace. Drumtroddan Performance Area is an area full of games, mischeif and recreation. From performance arts to games and processions, Drumtroddan will provide involvement and participation for all ages. The Green Space Geo-Domes bring a range of fun and exciting activities and workshops which promote environmental awareness and sustainable ways of living. We will be running workshops and activities based around the following themes .. green woodworking, felt making, circus skills, complimentary therapies, low impact development, Permaculture, renewable energy - micro generation, natural child birth and abundance projects. The common thread that connects all these activities is how to live well and happily whilst having a positive affect on our environment! Mystic Sauna - After the success of our secret sauna last year, the National Elf Service are back again this year in a top secret location near the 'nude is good' stage! We will be open as much as possible whilst there are people wanting to use it.. feel free to come help us chop wood! There will be a magic hat to collect your donations for the sauna cru! The Shellycoat Kids Area will be on hand to entertain the festivals young crowd (and possibly a few older ones too!). From mask making to theatre and recyclable arts, the children will be brought in to engage and feel part of the festival as well as engage with other children in a safe, supervised environment, providing a bit of rest bite for tired mums and dads. It is hoped that the activities in the Shellycoat over the weekend will culminate in a procession by the children and possibly a few parents. The Rheged Fair will consist of stalls, cafés and food vendors. The food traders have been hand picked upon a set of principles which entails low cost, locally supplied, environmentally friendly, healthy, good quality products (mostly organic, free range and hand prepared). The market stalls have mainly been made up by local traders but will include festival essentials, hand crafted art pieces, local wares, interesting festival garments and jewellery from both Dumfries and Galloway and across the world. -
