About me:

- CONTEMPORARY ARTIST – MELLETIOS KYRIAKIDIS: Mell’s work is grounded in a deep concern of the perception of humanity. It draws from philosophical ideas based on theorist and great thinkers from the likes of Jean Baudrillard and Michael Foucault that includes the analysis of the abnormal and the hyper-real association within the altered views of the world. Melletios has earned a reputation for his detailed symbolism on the construction of irony and the realistic recreation of popular commodities. Commenting on a structuralist point of view, his works are part photo realistic, part performance, focusing on the art making as the foundation of the aesthetic and rejecting the decorative. He places the symbol on a pedestal to become the 'concept', or art commodity, he works in many mediums believing that we should not be limited to a single craft and the notion of labelling the visual medium destroys the subject. This encompasses the post-modern and cultural framework of the object as the stimulus.

"CRUCIFIX" The crucifix is an icon that represents both a myth and a reality. I too, am a myth to some but a reality to most. I am a fabrication to those who maintain the Greco Pontian genocide did not occur, yet, my family are a legacy of its existence. The images of the installation represent people in the crucifix position. Are these people real? Are they phantoms? Or icons of mythological beings, taken by a Greco Pontain spectre, experiencing diaspora? Dancing the Kotsari!

Weird o's With all the wack that's going on in the world, why do us middle class/ middle age kids, sit on our computers, interacting with one another searching for that great perhaps? What is the great perhaps? and why are we advertising our selves on billboards when the world is being run by tyrants and we post crap [(like I love long walks on the beach) and hey look I have seven hundred hot friends]. I don't know about you but I think this is all a little bit of tranquil fun. Tomorrow I think I'll bye a gun. Or cream bun. ....a>..
