About: Georgia Fields

Indie-pop chanteuse Georgia Fields released her debut self-titled album to critical acclaim in October 2010.

The record sees Fields bravely combining the childlike naivety of experimental sounds (such as children’s toys and cordless drills) with timeless strings, brass, and woodwind arrangements. Over two years in the making, the long-awaited album is being heralded as a pocket-sized orchestral wonder.

Fields made her entrance on the local music scene in December of 2007, with her independently released EP ‘Drama on the High Seas of Emotion’. The title-track peaked at #4 on the Triple J Unearthed Pop Charts that year, and with each CD cover handcrafted from a Little Golden Book, Fields soon sold out.

Collaborating with childhood friend and esteemed contemporary classical cellist Judith Hamann, Georgia became quite the festival favourite, playing on numerous occasions for the Apollo Bay Music Festival, St Kilda Festival, and the Queenscliff Music Festival, to name just a few. She has supported iconic Australian artists Angie Hart (Frente!), Charles Jenkins (Icecream Hands), Abby Dobson (Leonardo’s Bride), and alt-country supergroup The Wilson Pickers.

Thanks to funding from Arts Victoria, Fields was able to recruit a full cast of orchestral musicians for her debut album project. Producer Greg Arnold (Things of Stone and Wood; Skipping Girl Vinegar; Stonefield) was at the helm, with legendary engineer David McCluney (Nick Cave; The Drones; Dan Kelly) behind the desk. At the time of its release, the "Georgia Fields" LP was featured as “Album of the Week” for Radio National, and Clare Bowditch named it as one of her recommendations for 2011 in The Age [Melbourne] Magazine. JMag jumped on the bandwagon too, declaring that “Fields is one to watch”. And watch her we did, when in April 2011 she appeared on SBS’s cult television series ‘RocKwiz’ alongside infamous crooner Normie Rowe.

Georgia Fields is currently in working on her sophomore offering, due in 2012.
