[x] New MEGASHIRA interview in the german musik-mag RAVELINE 02.2010

[x] The dungeons of the past are deep, so are our archives. When diggin' deep into a big metal case of DAT tapes i stumbled across a mysterious track that was recorded arround 2000: ..PHALANX.. - somehow, this tune got never released - anyway, as it was banned to tape then, it is reduxed now to be presented here for the very first time - check the player ! 11.2009

[x] MEGASHIRA was a a challenging project by the german Drum'n'Bass-pioneers Kabuki and Mainframe, representing a trip from the early days of Breakbeat to Acid Jazz. With the (quiet nice) stigma of having released the first ever german drum&bass album, MEGASHIRA are known for their beat-driven, organic and musical approach to music. Being engaged with many other projects, besides running their labels, and an unfortunate release-date of their last concept-album "At Last" in 2001 - Kabuki and Mainframe discontinued this project. However, productions never stopped and the spirit of MEGASHIRA was naturally morphed into later projects. Transcending a virtual resurrection, this site pays tribute to this shuttle that originally started 1996.

[x] KABUKI is a veteran DJ of Germany’s drum&bass scene and a high-profile producer who constantly releases on the most exclusive international labels. He was brought up as a classical guitarist, studying composition and abandoning everything for the thrill of electronic music, on a mission to cut the perfect beat and construct the ideal bassline.
Producing, engineering and mastering are MAINFRAME’s weapons of choice, whether it means analysing, processing or manipulating, there’s a strict quality control to everything that passes through his hands. Applying these skills not only to drum&bass productions is his main task, 24-7.

AT LAST promo

[x] Few years after the excellent Drum'N'Bass flavoured debut album "Zero Hour", Megashira are back with a surprise! The path that Kabuki and Mainframe chose for the production of their next album "At Last" is unique: all 10 pieces were recorded live in the studio with musicians (not one sound file is of an artificial origin). However, hardly any of the musicans actually got to see each other. Every instrument drums, guitar, bass and vibraphone was recorded seperately and put together for over 11 months on the computer. The result is an album whose musical expression most definitely belongs in the realms of Jazz. "At Last" takes hold of the theoretical starting point of Jazz and interprets it in a contemporary context. [soul seduction]

[excerpt from the "at last" booklet]
One last deep breath,
then you step outside.
Everything aound you is silence,
still it's all dark, no light has been lit yet.
Pictures of this movie rush around your head,
a 60's sci-fi flick.
In the film, aliens attack Earth,
letting the earthlings fall into a deep sleep with
a mysterious weapon.
Stepping outside the studio on a sunday morning,
the City feels
just like this.
