The idea for "Popstar Parties" came about when Fiona put on a Popstar Party with her musical partner Ryan for her daughter Amber's 6th birthday party. It was a huge success and resulted in lots of family and friends requesting the same! Due to such demand and the fact that no one else in Sydney was offering exactly this type of party, Fiona thought they'd set up business and hence Popstar Parties was born!

Fiona and Ryan are both professional entertainers, performing together in their fun and funky pop band Mr Malarkey all over Sydney (check them out in top friends below). You can hear 3 of their songs, "Something More Than Ordinary", "She" and "Hold On To Love" here above. Ryan plays keyboards and sings and Fiona sings and plays percussion. Fiona is also a dance teacher (of jazz ballet, funk, hip hop) in Cremorne and Crows Nest while Ryan coaches tennis to kids at Rawson's in Mosman.

Our parties run fo 2 whole hours and cost just $250. We are available to do parties on weekends between 2pm and 9pm and after school on Fridays from 3pm. During the school holidays we are available anytime on Fridays and the weekend.

Once you book a party, we need to know what song your child would like to sing for the party. We arrange around 90 seconds of it for everyone to perform on the day.

We have found it a lot easier for everyone if they choose a song from our song list below as they seem to work the best as they are popular and upbeat as well as fun and simple to sing!

We also need to know how many kids are coming and recommend keeping it to under 20 so they all get a turn singing on stage.

STRUCTURE: The 2 hour parties basically follow the structure below:

HAIR & MAKE-UP & DANCE WARM UP - Fiona applies funky make-up and glitter hairspray to the kids as they arrive while Ryan plays fun and funky tunes on his keyboard and plays games like Musical Statues, Sit Down on Your Bum, Musical Mats and Numbers to get them dancing and warmed up while they wait their turn in make-up.

REHEARSAL - Ryan and Fiona then sing through the chosen song with the entire group with a huge lyric board to learn the words. We also hand out percussion to play along and we go over the song until everyone knows it well. We all sing and dance together!

PERFORMANCES - Each kid then gets their turn performing the song on stage with a friend! During make-up, Fiona pairs the kids up. Before each pair sing, they are introduced by their cool band name that they have come up with themselves as they come through the curtain. They then take their place in front of the microphones while their friends applaud! There are also 2 back up dancers behind them who have their turn singing next! Everyone else dances, sings along for support and plays percussion in front of the stage as each pair take their turn singing.

AWARD CEREMONY - After everyone has had their turn performing, we then have our Popstar Award Ceremony where every kid is presented with their own special Popstar Certificate. They are announced individually and are then able to say a few words into the mic to their adoring fans if they wish!

VIDEO FOOTAGE - All the performances are filmed to watch later. See an example of some video footage above left of Amber and Isabel (both aged 7) performing "Blame it on the Boogie". Press stop on the music above first so you can hear them singing clearly.

PLAYBACK - Once the 90 minutes is up, we are happy to show the video footage, which is usually around 20 to 30 minutes long as we pack up our equipment. The kids can then enjoy sitting down to watch all their performances on TV. This is a good time to serve food to the kids.

EXTRAS:

PARTY DVD'S - If requested, we are happy to produce a specially edited DVD of all the performances. The cost is $50 for one labelled and cased copy or $65 for 4 copies so you have extras to give to family and friends! Any extra copies after that are $10 each. Orders must be taken and paid for on the day and you will receive them in the post within a week of the party.

LONG DISTANCE SURCHARGE - For parties held at locations more than 20km's outside the Sydney CBD there is a surcharge of $25 to cover the extra travelling time, petrol and possible toll charges.
