  • Bio

Born out of the freezing winters of upstate New York, Sadie and the Crooked Road is a convergence of vintage and modern, young and old. In a time where music is full of trite, pre-packaged bands, they play music from the heart. Young songwriter Sadie Ava writes from the wettest parts of the soul, and coupled with the skill of the musicians behind her, there is a raw passion that is undeniable. Take notice. Be moved. ..Says Frank Deblase of City Newspaper: .."I hate when a big deal is made about a young artist's age to the point that it precedes whatever that artist does. It can cloud a listener's perspective and cause them to be a little too harsh, or too forgiving. Sadie Ava is a singer/songwriter with amazing lyrical depth, a powerful yet beautiful voice, and a captivating guitar style that's equal parts rhythm and melody, with frequent trips north incorporating the whole neck. The songs sound like the lyrics and the tune were written simultaneously, symbiotically, as if each one couldn't exist without the other. I caught her Friday night at Spot Coffee. At any age this level of talent would enthrall. And it's only gonna get better." .. FROM JUKEBOX HEROINE ..Sadie and the Crooked Road is an indie/grunge/soul trio from Seattle, WA. Influenced by groovin’ ladies like Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and Janis Joplin, Sadie and the Crooked Road fuse an almost nu-folk with banjos, acoustic guitars, mandolins, and searing angst that feels right down home. This band next door masters the essentials of vocal harmonies and picking guitar lines that make their sonic space seem like a summer evening performance on your back porch. Songs like “Find Me Shelter” hint at religious alienation, with its slide guitar, while “When I Get Where I Am Going” talks about traveling and keeping in touch with those you leave behind. It has a catchy hook that makes you want to clap along. This is my favorite song on their myspace. Sadie keeps it real and draws from that inner twang not everyone is willing to admit they love.
