Biografia
Volcano Playground were born in a suburban basement from a myriad of musical influences, eventually coming together to create the bands aptly titled Basement EP. A foursome includes Jakub Hladik, who spent the last decade in melancholic explorations of ambient electro to Jackie Game, who’s previous alt-country foray honed her sultry vocals. The Plishewsky cousins round out the mix, featuring Mark’s characteristic vocals and penchant for electronic beats and Pete’s ear for the hook. -

BIO
Volcano Playground were born in a suburban basement from a myriad of musical influences, eventually coming together to create the Waiting ep, a mix of modern electronic, shoegaze, and post punk. A foursome includes Jakub Hladik, who spent the last decade in melancholic explorations of ambient electro, shoegaze, and early to late British psychedelic, to Jackie Game, who’s previous indie rock foray honed her sultry vocals and post punk guitar style. The Plishewsky cousins round out the mix, featuring Mark’s characteristic vocals and penchant for electronic beats and frantic drumming, and Pete, who's jangly, hooky guitar and pop sensibilities keep the band from going too far underground.

PRESS
"Volcano Playground play lush, danceable dream-pop featuring soaring harmonies and tuneful guitars. It’s the kind of music that’s perfectly designed to be remixed by every European duo you can name, all the way from Air to the Dewaele brothers"
- EYE Magazine
“…[T]he potential contained in what they’re doing is immense.”
- CHROMEWAVES
"These guys also put on a great live show, exhibiting an uncommon ability to harness the chaos of noise into tight pop structures."
- DROWNED IN SOUND
"The Shwaltz started at 1 p.m. but I didn't arrive until just before 6, meaning I'd missed a few bands but fortunately I was in time to see Volcano Playground. This was my first live taster of the mysterious aural candy being created by Volcano Playground, a band formed from the remains of three other bands; The Recroom, Thee Side Project and Antique Toys. VP play a minimalist or 'far out' style of rock, with swirling sounds that create the kind of cosmic energy that you can easily zone out to. The energy of their music would be better channeled in a dimly-lit venue full or at home in your bedroom as you stare at the ceiling and ponder life and universe. However, this energy was not lost at The Shwaltz, as Volcano Playground set the tone for the evening, as people chilled-out, and in some cases spaced-out, as they sat back on the grass and benches and enjoyed the music. If your a fan of Sigur Ros then you must seek out Volcano Playground"
- Brian Banks, editor of Music Vice Magazine
"...And if I could only sum up the set in one word, it would be intense. Much like when I saw Snowblink open for Owen Pallett in April, Volcano Playground was super-focused on their music."
- Grey Owl Point
"...Jackie has such a wonderful melodic voice, but 2 out of remaining 3 members of Volcano Playground also contribute vocals. They are multi-instrumentalists, going from drums to keys, guitar to keys, etc., so this should probably give you an idea of the talent on that stage."
- Buying shots for bands
"It's spacey shoe-gazing for a diorama of celestial cutouts clad in aluminum, creaking on a string, foam planets and candy-coloured rocket ships..."
- William McGuirk, writer for Oshawa/Whitby this week.
"This is a band that makes music on their own terms, pushing the sonic horizons of swirly shoegaze lushness with sombre dream-pop. Embracing the past and sculpting it as their own unique musical vision".
- Lonely Vagabond
