Idol Winner Phillip Phillips Leaves Hospital Post-Surgery
By Emily Zemler • Jun 12, 2012 at 4:33 PM
.American Idol winner Phillip Phillips was released from the hospital today after undergoing more than six hours of surgery for massive kidney stones, according to TMZ.
.The site reports that a stent placed in Phillip’s kidney was there for too long and became embedded in his body. TMZ reports that surgeons had to cut the stent out with a laser, meaning the surgery was fairly serious. But don’t feel too badly for Phillips. TMZ also notes that he will be recovering in a mansion in Malibu being lent to him by one of the head executives from Idol. The hope is that the singer will be back on his feet by early July since the American Idol tour kicks off July 6. A source told EW.com, “The surgery went well. He’s doing well and looking forward to starting the Idol tour in July.” The singer added, “If I can sing with all those kidney stones in me, I can make the first date.”
.This kidney issue isn’t new for the singer, who suffers a congenital kidney condition. His health problems cause issues during his run on Idol, causing him excruciating pain and preventing him from participating in various Idol duties. In March, Phillips underwent a surgical procedure to have a stent implanted into his kidney to prevent blockage, which meant he was able to remain a competing contestant on the show. It’s that stent that TMZ reports now has caused more issues. We wish Phillips well in his recovery and you should should too. Leave some positive energy in the comments.
